Why Armenia?

The Armenian Global Startup Ecosystem

The Armenian global startup ecosystem is rapidly gaining global recognition, driven by a new wave of high-growth companies founded by Armenians and operating worldwide. Flagship successes include Picsart, Armenia’s first unicorn, an AI-powered design platform with over 150 million users; ServiceTitan, an Armenian-founded company valued at over $9 billion and serving the home services industry (with a 400-member Armenian branch); and Renderforest, a bootstrapped creative platform with over 30 million users.

Other standout ventures like Krisp (AI voice technology), SuperAnnotate (AI data annotation), Disqo (consumer insights), Podcastle (podcast creation), 10Web (AI-powered WordPress builder), and EasyDMARC (email security) showcase the ecosystem’s breadth across sectors like AI, SaaS, healthtech, and cybersecurity. These startups reflect Armenia’s ability to build globally scalable solutions with deep local talent.

Global tech giants such as Synopsys, NVIDIA, Adobe, Cisco, Oracle, Siemens, AMD, and Broadcom have established a strong presence in Armenia through engineering teams, design centers, and long-term operations. Their involvement reinforces Armenia’s position as a trusted destination for high-tech talent and advanced technology development.

Growth

Armenia’s high-tech and startup ecosystem has become a key pillar of the national economy, contributing around 7% of GDP in 2024 with a CAGR of 52.4%. Ranked #54 globally, #1 in Central Asia (five years running), and #13 in Eastern Europe, Armenia’s tech sector is gaining global recognition. This growth is fueled by a globally oriented mindset, strong STEM talent, supportive government policies, and the presence of global tech leaders. With 1,200+ companies, 45,000 professionals, and $2.6B in turnover, Armenia is emerging as a top destination for startups and innovation.

Education

A key driver of Armenia’s tech growth is its strong and inclusive STEM education ecosystem. Top universities like AUA, YSU, and NPUA offer specialized programs in engineering, computer science, and data science. Regional hubs such as InnoIjevan, Gyumri, and Vanadzor Technology Centers, and the Microsoft Innovation Center Armenia extend access to practical, industry-led training beyond Yerevan. National initiatives like TUMO, Armath (in 630+ schools), and Generation AI equip thousands of students with skills in robotics, coding, and AI. New platforms like 42 Yerevan, ACA, COAF SMART, and Real School further strengthen the talent pipeline, positioning Armenia as a global source of high-tech talent.

Governmental Incentives

The Armenian Government actively supports the high-tech sector through generous, long-term incentives valid through 2031. Accredited companies benefit from a 10% income tax rate (vs. 20% standard), a 1% turnover tax for small firms, and the ability to deduct 200% of qualified salaries (who do R&D) from taxable profit. Additionally, up to 60% of hiring costs and 50% of training expenses are reimbursed. These policies make Armenia one of the most attractive destinations for tech investment in the region.
